Week of April 6, 2020
The Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority is offering grants up to $25,000 for beneficiary serving organizations that have been impacted by COVID-19. Visit the Trust's website for more information. 
  • All non-essential court hearings are postponed until after May 31, 2020, including most civil cases such as divorce and custody hearings. Parties can still file paperwork in all cases.
  • All criminal jury trials and grand jury meetings are suspended until after May 31, 2020.
  • Domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and elder financial abuse protection order hearings are all being heard by all courts. 
  • Other cases deemed “essential” where the court is still having hearings include arraignments, felonies first appearances, change of plea and sentencing, bail review, adjudication and disposition on petitions to revoke, habeas corpus applications, child-in-need-of-aid, alcohol and drug commitment, quarantine and isolation proceeding, juvenile delinquency arraignment and detention, search warrant and arrest warrant, and temporary guardianship and conservatorship.
  • Every court now has a process for e-filing or faxing pleadings and other paperwork. Paperwork can also be dropped off at a court dropbox.  All parties, witnesses and attorneys are encouraged to appear telephonically at proceedings except in rare exceptions.
